The present passive: werden + past participle
How to form the German process passive (Vorgangspassiv) in the present, name the agent with von, and tell it apart from the sein-state passive.
The process passive (Vorgangspassiv) puts the focus on the action, not on who does it. In the present tense it is formed with the conjugated verb werden plus the past participle, which goes to the end of the clause:
Das Auto wird repariert. — The car is being repaired.
If you want to name the doer, use von + dative; for a means or cause, use durch + accusative:
Der Brief wird von der Chefin geschrieben.
Don't confuse this with the state passive (Zustandspassiv), which uses sein and describes a result, not an ongoing action: Das Auto ist repariert = the car is (already) repaired.
Examples
Das Auto wird repariert.
The car is being repaired.

Common mistakes
The process passive (an ongoing action) uses werden; sein + participle describes a finished state.
